The Kansas State University Mathematics Department and its Graduate Student Chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics will host the Sonia Kovalevsky Day on April 20, 2024.

Goal: The objective of the event is to increase middle school girls’ interest in mathematics, assist them in the transition between middle school and high school mathematics, and encourage them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM disciplines).

Who? All middle school students (6th, 7th, 8th graders) are invited to participate; students can attend on their own or in groups.

What? Participants will engage in hands-on activities through a series of workshops on exciting math topics, and will have the chance to interact with other participants, math graduate and undergraduate students and math professors. Workshops’ topics include exponential growth and decay, probability games and solving puzzles with algorithms.
