The AWM is firmly committed to fostering an inclusive environment that enables a diverse community to be involved in and contribute to AWM activities. The AWM believes that all people with an interest in mathematics should be supported and encouraged to participate in the profession.
It is AWM’s goal to celebrate, recognize and support a diverse mathematical community of individuals from across the spectrum of age, race, gender, gender identity and expression, national or ethnic origin, religion and religious belief, marital status, parental status, body shape or size, sexual orientation, physical ability, socioeconomic status, employment status and other aspects of diversity.
We are excited to announce that Deck 2 of EvenQuads is here! You can get your own deck and other EvenQuads items at our online store, store.awm-math.org/. Each double-sided deck allows for at least ten different games to be played. Symbols representing four mathematical organizations (AWM, MAA, NAM, and WME) are found on one side of the cards and are used to play a variety of mathematical games. The other side of the cards features biographies and hand-drawn portraits of notable women in mathematics created by volunteers from the larger mathematical community. The full project consists of four decks of sixty-four cards each and the first two are currently available for purchase! The decks are effective teaching tools to expose students to concepts in subjects like algebra, combinatorics, and discrete geometry. Pedagogical materials related to the games are available for instructors at awm-math.org/publications/playing-cards/.Please spread the word about EvenQuads by sharing this flier!
