AWM Workshop: Women in Inverse Problems
AWM’s Research Network for Women in Inverse Problems (WIP) will host a minisymposium with research by and from this research network. Please attend and learn how to get involved with this group.
This mini-symposium is part of the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) Workshop and features a selection of junior and senior speakers from AWM’s Research Network for Women in Inverse Problems (WIP).
Inverse problems are at the heart of scientific research and technological development. In general, any endeavor to extract knowledge from data, can be viewed as an inverse problem. From the mathematical point of view inverse problems lie at the interface between optimization, partial differential equations, probability, and statistics. They find applications in diverse areas such as medical imaging, characterization of the Earth’s interior, remote sensing, glaciology, non-destructive testing of materials, etc. Significant progress has been achieved in Inverse Problems recently by combining fundamental developments in mathematical sciences with novel computational techniques. This mini-symposium will focus on women’s contributions to modern mathematical and computational aspects of inverse problems.
One of the goals of this mini-symposium is to facilitate professional networking and create mentoring opportunities for women researchers. Graduate students and researchers, at different levels, focused on inverse problems and their applications are welcome to participate. Graduate students and researchers in other fields of mathematics who are interested in inverse problems, may also be interested in this mini-symposium.
