AWM Research Networks
Research Networks are research collaborations intended to grow and support a community of researchers working in a common area, fostering long-term collaborations. Many networks start as Research Collaboration Conferences for Women (RCCWs), week-long conferences held at mathematics institutes where junior and senior participants come together to work on pre-defined research projects.
Each year, AWM Workshops at the annual Joint Mathematics Meetings and SIAM Meetings bring together one or two of the Research Collaboration Networks to showcase their work and encourage continued collaboration and mentoring. AWM also organizes biennial Research Symposia, with high-profile Plenary Speakers and Special Sessions in research areas linked to the Research Collaboration Networks.
AWM-HERS Leadership Development Program
In 2027, AWM will partner with Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) to offer its first Leadership Training Opportunity. This initiative will prepare current and emerging leaders in mathematics for roles such as department chairs, deans, and institutional change agents. The program is designed for women who are aspiring to or entering early stages of administrative leadership, with a focus on practical skill-building, peer networking, and sustained reflection. The workshop will be delivered in two phases: a two-day in-person Leadership Institute in conjunction with the JMM in Chicago on January 11 and 12, 2027 followed by three Quarterly Leadership Circles held virtually. Join us in building a network of AWM leaders.

The AWM Research Networks Program is an Organizational Finalist for the 2024 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring, the “Nation’s highest honors for mentors who work with underrepresented groups to develop fully the Nation’s human resources in STEM.” In March 2024, the finalists were announced after the applications were reviewed by a panel of experts and the National Science Foundation. Presidential Awardees will be announced at a later date by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
