Faculty Advice Panel
A key focus for the University of Delaware student chapter was career preparation and academic success, both for undergraduate and graduate students. For career preparation they launched a two-part seminar series, “All Things Job Applications,” designed to demystify the job search process in both academia and industry. The first session featured the Chair of the UD Mathematical Sciences Department, who offered guidance on navigating academic hiring. The second session welcomed a recent Ph.D. graduate who shared real-world insights on industry applications, helping students explore career paths beyond academia.
Also, their Faculty Advice Panel on Qualifying Exams brought together five faculty members to provide clear, targeted advice on mastering one of the Ph.D. program’s most challenging milestones. Their guidance played a crucial role in preparing students for this academic hurdle. Recognizing the unique needs of undergraduates, the University of Delaware student chapter also held an Undergraduate Advice Panel featuring female upperclassmen in STEM majors. Panelists shared strategies for academic success, finding research opportunities, and building confidence in male-dominated disciplines.
